Dear Disruptors 😎

We believe beauty, fashion, and lifestyle are not performances or trends, but rituals, identities, and cultural languages. Our mission is to explore these domains as forces of self-expression, ethics, inclusivity, and emotional truth.

We share stories which elevates everyday practices into meaningful narratives, rooted in care for people, culture, and the planet.

Let’s dive in.

FASHION
France Slows Down Fast Fashion

Key Points:

  • France is among the first countries aiming to reign in “ultra fast fashion”, which includes disposable, cheap, and low quality textile items designed for a shorter life span.

  • France’s Anti-Fast Fashion Law came into force on 1st Jan 2026, but like every law, it will be rolled out in phases, which are:

    • Phase 1 - Eco‑Score Display Requirement: Every textile item (clothing, footwear, accessories, household linen) must display an Eco‑Score on physical tags or on online product pages.

    • Phase 2 - Eco‑Tax Introduction: Eco tax is set at up to €5 per item, adjusted according to its environmental impact.

    • Phase 3 - Advertising ban and marketing restrictions.

Details:

  • Eco-Score shows how eco-friendly a product is based on factors like durability, recyclability, repairability, microplastic content, material use, and transparency in labelling.

  • An A-E rating, with A being most sustainable and E least, offers a snapshot of a product’s environmental impact at the point of purchase.

  • Better scoring items pay lower tax, and vice versa, holding brands responsible for recycling, repair, and reuse. This will have a direct impact on brands raw material, production and quality choices. Go cheap and pay high tax, or go high quality and pay low tax.

  • Social media influencers cannot promote ultra fast fashion products, reducing ‘viral haul’ video culture.

  • These changes are still rolling out in phases, so how they play out and what impact they actually will have become clearer over time.

Why It Matters: Fast fashion has normalised waste. It is driven by fleeting trends, celebrity or occasional hype, overproduction and easy distribution, forcing factories for rapid output, putting pressure on the environment. Companies are highly likely to push the tax impact on prices towards the consumers, which is not welcomed, but consumer behaviour takes time to change and adapt. High quality brands may use this opportunity to their advantage to further increase their prices advertising their eco-credentials. This law is a positive step towards reducing waste, overconsumption, labour abuse and pushing brands to invest in more and new sustainable practices which add to the economy. If fashion can be slowed here, it can be slowed anywhere. Explore more steps this law takes to curb fast fashion.

BEAUTY
Essential Oils and Hydrosols: Are You Using Them Right?

Key Points:

  • Essential oils (EOs) are highly concentrated plant essences, carrying its active properties and main aromatic compounds in oil form.

  • Hydrosols are mild, water-based plant components that contain small amounts of organic acids, antioxidants, trace EO molecules, and aromatic compounds in a clear water-like liquid.

  • EOs and hydrosols are extracted using a similar process, but differ in concentration, composition, and use in beauty care.

  • They are not “strong vs gentle” versions of a plant’s botanical extract and cannot be used interchangeably.

  • EOs are natural but that does not make them safe. EOs need to be correctly diluted for safe and effective use.

  • Hydrosols can be applied directly, and are easily mistaken for perfumes or body mists due to their light but short-lived scent.

Details:

  • Steam passes through plant materials - flowers, roots, barks, leaves - carrying their compounds, then cools and separates into two layers: Essential oil (oil-soluble) and Hydrosol (water-soluble).

  • EOs with correct dilution offer targeted support: Tea tree for acne and dandruff, lavender for soothing irritation, chamomile for calming sensitivity, rosemary for scalp support, peppermint for cooling, and the list goes on.

  • Hydrosols or hydrolates support daily maintenance like light hydration, mild oil control, refreshing skin and scalp, calming heat exposure, soothing sensitivity, maintaining skin balance, and prepping after cleansing.

  • Approx 12 to 16.6 kg of fresh roses are required to produce 5 ml of Rose EO. Such concentrated EO must always be diluted in a carrier oil (jojoba, almond) or cream (shea cream) and not used daily.

  • Hydrosols are gentle and safe for infants, pets, and moms-to-be for direct, frequent use. Research shows many hydrosols at 2.5% concentration are suitable for long-term use, while at 10% or above may cause skin reactions.

Why It Matters: Hydrosols are often seen as leftovers of essential oil production, but many are now intentionally distilled, resulting in better quality than by-product versions. Essential oils provide targeted support, but they work alongside core skincare rather than replacing it. Used with the right understanding and expectations, both can genuinely support your beauty routine.
